You are immensely valuable!
I would like to invite you to reflect on the fact that if God had seen no value in you, He would not have created you. You may not feel very valuable or that you have great worth right now because going through a divorce challenges everything we believe about ourselves.
But Sweet Sister, hear me say that YOU are more valuable and precious than anything you can imagine. The ultimate truth about who you are, and your worth comes solely from your Creator. Any other perspectives, pronouncements & opinions that originate from flawed humans (including YOURSELF!) do not hold up if they differ from God's.
Your flaws, shortcomings and failures do not define you! We have the tendency to play our failures on repeat in our heads, and that leads to a warped perspective of our value. We need to replace that with the truth, as told to us by our Creator, that we are prized, adored, loved, and created for a heavenly purpose.
Sometimes, the coping mechanisms we use to deal with rejection actually exacerbate our feelings of self-worth instead of helping. We mean them to protect us, but they isolate us instead, making us feel more worthless and alone. These can include:
- Avoidance -
- Sabotage of relationships and situations so that we retain control -
- Reject others before they can reject us -
Key thing to remember in this stage
Seeking out the ultimate truth will set you free. What is that truth?
That you are prized, adored, loved, and created for a heavenly purpose!
Bonus Strategy:
Specific Journal Prompts to Help Get Un-Stuck from this Stage
1) What failures, flaws or shortcomings have I let define me?
2) What negative pronouncements are playing on auto-loop in your head?
3) What character traits/talents/qualities do I possess that I think are good?
4) What positive things do my friends/kids/parents/co-workers etc. compliment me on?
5) What things about me do I think make God proud?
"I can do all things through him who strengthens me."
